Dior and Sacai: The Rise of Co-Brand Collaborations

This affair signals larger ambitions for Dior Men, one that gradually maintains its allure and luxury appeal without being absent from the trends of the industry.

Dior Men’s new co-brand collaboration with legendary Japanese streetwear label Sacai was revealed today. It’s no surprise, especially coming from Kim Jones — artistic director of Dior Men — who has successfully orchestrated a transitional new urban language for the House’s menswear line through countless collaborations with both brands and artists. Forever changed, the new collaboration sees a more democratic approach to luxury menswear, and in turn, changes the worldview of both the brand and the clothes.

In a series of images shot by Brett Llyod revealing the 57 pieces in the capsule, the partnership makes complete sense. As seen with the opening look, where bomber jackets trickle down in the same satin as seen as the House’s Summer 2020 collection, the technicality of Sacai elevates the structure of romanticism with a blend of the urban. The Dior Saddle in the capsule now comes in a tote bag style, with exposed nylon pockets and drawstring details prominent in its design.

Patchwork, layered overcoats and a predominantly black and white palette overtakes the rest of the collection. Footwear  — such as the Dior Snow and Dior Explorer boots — sport a layered approach, while jewellery sees the CD Icon logo in gold and silver-finish brass alongside Sacai’s iconic pearls. It’s a result of matching parallel ideas between Sacai’s founder, Chitose Abe and Jones himself. Each creating a new viewpoint in the language of Dior.

The release of the collaboration comes after the success of the House’s foray into urban streetwear. Its sold-out Dior x Jordan 1 released back in its Fall 2020 collection is its greatest achievement thus far. This affair signals larger ambitions for Dior Men, one that gradually maintains its allure and luxury appeal without being absent from the trends of the industry. More will be expected of Jones in the coming seasons, and we’re certain he’d fulfil it well.

The exchange of ideas between Jones and Abe is now available for purchase at the Marina Bay Sands Dior Men boutique.
